Garland C. "Gary" Moore has previously served as District Rotary Foundation Annual Programs Fund Chair (2005-2007), Assistant Governor (2002-2006), District Conference House of Friendship (a/k/a "Party Alley) Chair (2006), District Chair for Community Assistance Programs (2001-2003), and President of the Rotary Club of Rockdale County (2000-2001). Gary was recently appointed by RI President Wilf Wilkinson and RI President-Elect D.K. Lee to serve on the international level as a member of the Reach Out-to-Africa-Partner Countries Subcommittee for the period May 1, 2008 through June 30, 2010.
An "Army brat" born at Fort Riley, Kansas, growing up Gary attended 9 schools in 7 cities in 4 states. He served 12 years in the U.S. Army, and was later a Government Relations Consultant for five years focusing on site selections, plant openings and closings, literacy solutions, and lobbying on a nationwide basis. A former Rockdale County Magistrate Judge and Conyers Municipal Court Judge, Gary is also a criminal defense/family law attorney who has represented clients in over 60 Georgia counties, plus Alabama, Arizona, California and North Carolina.
Gary earned both his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Georgia and his law degree from Georgia State University College of Law under the G.I. Bill.
An Eagle Scout, Gary was District Commissioner for the Boy Scout's Atlanta Area Council's Yellow River District where he now chairs its Eagle Scout Board of Review. He is a past American Legion Post Junior Vice Commander, was named an "Outstanding Georgia Citizen" by former Georgia Secretary of State Max Cleland, has been recognized for his service by the Georgia Department of Labor and the Georgia Department of Human Resources, was a Director for the Georgia Institute for Community Business Development, and was once voted "Favorite Attorney" in his hometown newspaper's reader's poll.
Gary and his wife Irene have been married 26 years, and their daughter Carey is pursuing a Masters Degree in Music Performance (Flute) at the Longy School of Music, Cambridge, MA.
Having joined Rotary on November 27, 1996, Gary and Irene are both Rotary Foundation Major Donors and their daughter is a Paul Harris Fellow; he is also a member of both the Paul Harris and the Bequest Societies. Gary is a Georgia Rotary Student Program Hue Thomas Fellow and Irene and Carey are both Will Watt Fellows. Gary led the successful effort to attain a Rotary International Commemorative License Plate in Georgia. He has been awarded three Rotary Foundation District Service Awards, Rotary International's Four Avenues of Service Citation for Individual Rotarians, and a 12 year Perfect Attendance Award. A member of both the International Fellowship of Scouting Rotarians and the International Fellowship of Rotarian Convention Goers, Gary has attended RI conventions in Buenos Aires, Argentina (2000), San Antonio, Texas (2001), Brisbane, Australia (2003), Chicago, Illinois (2005), Salt Lake City, Utah (2007), and Los Angeles, California (2008) with plans to attend the 2009 RI Convention in Birmingham, England. Gary has make-ups from Arizona, California, Florida, Hawaii, Rotary Club/One in Chicago, Massachusetts, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, as well as England, Kenya and New Zealand.
